We love Oak Ridge!
Excellence in education
Is a tradition in Oak Ridge: Oak Ridge public schools are often cited as among the nation's best. The Wall Street Journal's Offspring magazine listed Oak Ridge schools among the top 100, in the country and number two in the South in 2000. Expansion Management magazine, urging companies to look at a community's schools to determine the quality of the workforce, ranked Oak Ridge schools among the top performing systems in the nation for six straight years. Newsweek, in the summer of 2003, ranked Oak Ridge High School among the top 250 of 700 ranked high schools based on the number of graduating seniors taking Advanced Placement courses.
Business & Industry
Are well represented by an active Chamber of Commerce, which not only works diligently in economic development, but also serves as a unifying force in the city. Primary industries include two key Department of Energy facilities: Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Y-12 National Security Complex, leading the nation in research and development of critical new technologies and national defense missions.
Recreational and cultural
Opportunities abound, from a world-class rowing facility attracting national and international competitors annually; two public golf courses and one private country club with both golf and pool; 12 city parks; the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association including our very own symphony, and the Oak Ridge Community Playhouse, the oldest in Tennessee.
Health care
Has traditionally been one of the community's strengths, with a recently renovated and expanded state of the art hospital, Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
